Council Fundraiser Idea: Cruise *Updated*

Jun 17, 2003 [Update: 6/17/03 -- To date, five individuals have expressed an interest in taking a cruise next April or May. We really need more interest in order to go as a group and especially to use as a fund raiser. If anyone is interested in taking one of the proposed cruises or if you think of another time either earlier or later in 2004, please notify Bill Weich, Council Cruise Coordinator at WWeich@aol.com, or 703-385-2195. He needs to get back to the Travel agent quickly as possible.]

Steve Macejka from John Paul 1 Council spoke at one of our business meetings in March about how his council has taken a shipboard cruise used it as a fund raiser. Many of you were interested in learning more about this. I spoke with the travel agent who specializes in booking the cruises for Steve's council. After some research into cruise packages, she suggested 2 possible packages. They are as follows:

April 17-24, 2004 Western Caribbean Cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean's "Navigator of the Seas" (the newest ship in their fleet)
Ports of Call include -Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Cozumel, Mexico, and Labadee, Hispaniola
Cost per Person - $900 for Inside Atrium or $1190 for outside balcony
Departs from Miami, FL
Airfare not included (but separate group package possible)

May 9-16, 2004 - Bahamas on Carnival Cruises (new ship in fleet)
Ports of Call include - Key West, Nassau, and Freeport
Departs from Baltimore (possible charter bus to and from Baltimore)
Cost per person - Inside Cabin (no window) $800, Outside (no balcony) $950, or Outside (with balcony) $1050

The way this fund raiser works is for every eight people that go on the cruise, the council earns $500 - $600. This would come back to the council for either a charity or operating expense. We could also extend this to the entire parish for St. Leo's. This would really boost our profits. A council member suggested that we also raffle off a pair of tickets to go on the cruise. This could be done at the Parish Picnic in September.

John Paul 1 Council also uses part of the proceeds to invite one their priests to join them on the cruise. We could do the same and invite Fr. Kelly.

Anyone interested in cruising should contact the Council's Cruise Chairman, Bill Weich at 703-385-2195, WWeich@aol.com. Please let him know as soon as possible (or by June 13) so he can get in touch with the travel agent.
