Please pray for my seven year-old niece Anna who was just diagnosed with leukemia on the 21st of May. Chances are good that it is curable (75%), but with two and a half years of treatment, including chemo-therapy for six months. The side effects can be severe (20% chance of brain damage from chemo through the spine). She underwent surgery to put in a port to her heart for the convenient withdrawal of blood and application of medicine. It was heart-rending for me to see her in the hospital, but even worse to leave her.
Anna's father, my brother-in-law Tim, who owns a Valvoline Oil Change store in Sterling, Va. is trying to raise funds through his business for the Child Life Center where Anna was treated. I doubt some of you will be driving to Sterling, Va. for an oil change, but if you know anyone who is looking for a good cause to which to donate, please pass the attached flyer on to them! I've also attached a letter with details about Anna's case from Anna's mother, my sister Dorothea (check out her mixed blessing #10!).
