I am going to be starting a new activity that I think will be very enjoyable and rewarding for the members of this council and families.
I have spoken to the Activities Coordinator over at Fairfax Nursing Center (the one on Main Street) about possible Knights involvement in their volunteer program. What we came up with (as a start) was the idea of coming once a month to help out with their regular Monday BINGO night. The hours are extremely easy -- we would arrive at approximately 6:45 PM and help with getting residents situated, start BINGO at around 7:00 or 7:15 (Knights and/or kids can help those who need it), and return residents to their floors by 8:00 to 8:15.
I am looking for volunteers for the "pilot program" in July -- on Monday, July 11th (looking to make it a regular event on the 2nd Monday of the Month). I have visited this nursing home for years with my children and it is an extremely rewarding experience. I encourage Knights with children especially (the residents just LOVE to see children -- it really brightens their day). Note: I am looking for those who would be willing to be contacted for each visit -- you are not committing to going every month.
