Something Different: Grand Knight's Spring Fling

6 PM in Providence Hall
Jun 08, 2013 On Saturday, June 8, at 6 pm we will be hosting the Grand Knight's Spring Fling.

It is a party where we all can "cowboy up and party down." Like mixing peanut butter and chocolate, we are taking two great Father Diamond Council traditions -- The Columbiettes' Spring Fling and the Grand Knight's Ball -- and mixing them together.

We know you probably have some questions, so here are some answers:

Q: What is the "Grand Knight's Spring Fling"?

A: As the Council's Fraternal year is quickly drawing to a close we realized we were going to be having two big parties within one week of each other. We had not originally intended it to be that way, it is just the way scheduling worked out. So we both decided that it could be fun and efficient to combine the Columbiettes' Spring Fling, which was being planned as a Western themed party, with the Grand Knight's Ball. The Columbiettes approved this idea at their last meeting and the Grand Knight gave his sign-off. So what we have is a Grand Knight's Spring Fling that we are both very excited about.

Q: Will there still be a separate traditional Grand Knight's Ball?

A: No, the Grand Knight's Spring Fling is the Council's recognition of the Grand Knight and the successful year the Council has had. If you are a regular attendee at the Grand Knight's Balls over the years, we hope you will join us at this event.

Q: Who is invited to this?

A: This party is open to all Council Members and their Columbiettes. We will be inviting the usual KofC dignitaries as well. There is a fee for this party ($30 per person) to offset the costs of the event. With the support of the Columbiettes, we are able to offer this party at a price that is less than what a traditional Grand Knight's Ball costs. This is an evening event, so we ask that the little buckaroos stay at home for this one. We hope to see a lot of Members at the party, particularly if you haven't been to a Council party in the past.

Q: Is this a Country Western theme?

A: Yes, we adopted the idea that the Columbiettes were planning for their event and applied it to the Grand Knight's Spring Fling. Reflecting the view of the Grand Knight and the Columbiettes, this party is going to be a relaxed event where we can all get together to unwind. We're going to be serving up some tasty country BBQ food, have a table for card playing, dancing to your favorite country (and other) music, and even maybe doing some country line dancing!

Q: Ok, I get the theme, but what do I wear?

A: We would like people to wear their favorite country western attire, and most importantly be comfortable. Cowboy boots, hats and jeans are strongly encouraged. But, if you feel better in a coat and tie, feel free to wear your black-tie and boots. Even if you don't have western wear, come decked out as you would to any other Council party. The decision is your's.

Q: I'm sold on the idea, but what are the details:
