Nov 21, 2005Our Council, in cooperation with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society of St. Leo’s Parish, will be collecting food and/or cash to provide underprivileged families with a food basket for Thanksgiving. The council donates a turkey and a gift certificate for purchase of perishables to go with the baskets. It has been a tradition in our Council that Council members (or groups of members) adopt a family and purchase a basket with the suggested items on our adopt–a-family shopping list.
Please try to participate in this worthwhile program. If you can’t provide a basket, cash donations would be helpful in purchasing items that are not available in the SVDP larder. We ask that your baskets be brought to Providence Hall no later than 9:30 AM on Saturday the 19th of November.
The suggested food list -- which is designed to provide a week's supply of groceries for a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children -- is posted on our website and is also available in Providence Hall. Depending on your spending habits, the average cost of providing all the items on the food list will cost approximately $65.
Sign up sheets for donating baskets, assembling baskets and delivery are also on the website.
Assembly is on Saturday, November 19th at 10:00 AM
Delivery to the recipients of the baskets will be on Sunday, November 20th starting at 10:00 AM.
Please consider taking part. This is one of our most important charitable events and we need your help. If you have questions contact Greg Skorupski on (703) 978-8280 or e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
